Meet Dottie, a gorgeous golden girl. Dottie came to us after retiring from breeding. She has likely had several litters of puppies in her lifetime. She turns six on March 22, 2025 and she is happy to leave her breeding days behind and start a new pampered life. She is a gentle sweetheart who loves cuddles and pets.
We do not believe Dottie ever lived in a house. She is cautiously learning about vacuum cleaners, brooms (she is not a fan), furniture, beds, eating out of a food bowl etc – a lot of things are new. She has learned the doggie door and knows where to go potty on the grass – she has had no accidents at her foster home. Because she is not used to being in a home with people, she has a tendency to get under your feet; care should be taken initially to be aware of her and where she is.
She is a little nervous when first meeting new people, but once she sees you are slow, gentle, and kind she warms up. She follows her foster mother everywhere and wants to be as close as possible to her at all times. She’s the definition of a Velcro dog. When laying on the bed for cuddles, Dottie will crawl up to get as close as possible and make sure every part of her body is touching you. She craves love and pets, kisses, and belly rubs. Dottie is not a big barker and is a quiet girl. She is not used to doggy beds, is reluctant to get on them, and prefers the floor. She would prefer to sleep with you in your room. She does not destroy any items in the home and can be left for a few hours alone. She enjoys chewing on bones or pig ears.
Dottie has lived with 2 male large adult dogs and a 17-year-old cat and she ignores all of them. She has no interest in playing with the dogs, sleeping next to them, or interacting in any way. She has been going on short walks, as she has not done that before. Her tail goes the whole time, she is very excited by all the new things she is seeing and smelling. She does not pull on a leash, but is learning to stay on the sidewalk, not drop down the curb to the road. She looks to her foster mum to teach her what is safe and is a quick learner. Even seeing parked cars are new to her.
Dottie could co-exist with cats and dogs who won’t bother her a lot or be your one and only. She is an absolutely beautiful girl, with a big smile and an even bigger forgiving heart. While we think she would be just fine with children, we have not observed her around them while in rescue. She would like a calm home rather than one with a lot going on all the time. Dottie will be spayed on February 23. She will need a little time for recovery and then will be available for adoption.
