Meet Dana, a sweet 1 ½ year old golden retriever that was saved from a shelter in Turkey by one of our rescuers. When you meet her you would never know she lived anything but a comfortable loving life.  She is sweet, happy, playful and smart.

Dana loves chasing balls and playing with dog toys but her favorite activity is hanging out with her people. She enjoys riding in cars and will lie quietly in the back seat during rides.  She is living in a foster home with 2 other dogs and gets along well with them.  She is housebroken, knows the dog door, is crate trained, and sleeps through the night. Although she is young and playful and will run around, she will also keep herself busy with toys and nylabones; and will settle down and cuddle on the couch or on the floor nearby her people.

Dana is still young and playful and will sometimes grab a towel or slipper and bring it to you.  She has done a little counter surfing while in foster care, but takes verbal correction well.  She is easy to walk with a gentle leader; but will pull without one at first.  She is a little overweight and needs daily walks and play so she can lose 5-10 pounds.  While long hikes would be great for her, she will need to build up to those as she doesn’t have that stamina right now. She did well in supervised daycare but dog parks may be too chaotic for her.
Dana will jump on people excitedly and might ‘mouth’ their hand upon greeting them;  but will settle down after a minute or 2.  She barked in foster care the first couple of days when  left alone or when her people were out of sight or not accessible (as in a different part of the house or outside).  The barking subsided after she got acclimated to her new environment but can be expected to happen initially in a new home.

Dana’s ideal home would be an active family where her humans are home most of the time and interact with her.  They would take her to obedience classes to learn basic commands and give her the daily exercise she needs.   We believe she would be fine with or without a doggie companion.  She would be fine with older kids in the family, but interactions with younger kids would need to be highly supervised.

With daily exercise, training, and lots of love Dana will be the perfect companion.  If you are interested in Dana, please complete our adoption application which can be found on our website: Adoption Application

NOTE: due to the higher costs of medical care and overseas transportation, Dana’s adoption donation is $1,000
